Here, at the end of my freshman year I am finding so many things are different and am definitely looking forward to this next year at University of Cincinnati. This year I have had the opportunity to gain relationships with many new people and have had an enriching experience through the Honors College. I have really gotten the chance to grow as a person this year by experiencing new things and stepping out in the world away from home alone for the first time.
It was definitely a challenge this year at first coming to Cincinnati not knowing anyone and having no one I knew from high school around. However, I feel that now, looking back that this has allowed me to grow by meeting new people and getting out of my comfort zone. This positive experience began at the University Honors Welcome Retreat where I got to know a lot of people I could still greet on campus later and call friends. I also got the opportunity to make quick friends from my major. Since this was the first year of my major (Medical Sciences) I got to really know all forty people in the major and especially bonded with those in my Learning Community and in the recreational basketball team we created (Med Sci Ballers). One other experience that profoundly affected me this past year was joining the rowing team and bonding with the novice team and working out with them as a team to work towards a goal. Looking into next year, I feel I have really created a network I can rely on moving forward. I am also looking forward to rooming with my roommates from last year in the new apartment style dorm at Scioto Hall.
Next year is also exciting for me as I am looking forward to the many different classes I am planning to take as well as the possibility of beginning to work in a lab and do research. There will be a lot of new opportunities next year that I can’t wait to dive into especially with some of Honor Seminars I am planning to take and participate in.
