Ethics in Healthcare was a course that was very interesting to me both personally and professionally. As a future medical professional, I feel that it is very important to think about how your ethics and the ethics of others can impact how you care for a patient. This course was an excellent tool to help prepare me and others for some of the dilemmas we could very well face in our future careers. The course centered around discussion in class, and included research into some of the basics in ethical decision making. With different case scenarios, robust conversation, and projects to help solidify what we learned this course was undoubtedly very helpful in preparing me for my future. This course culminated in a final project that centered around going out into the real world and finding an ethical issue that we could apply the methods we learned in class to. My group and I decided to volunteer at the UC Early Learning Center and applied the ethical decision making process to an ethical dilemma we faced there while volunteering. Overall, the course was invaluable in preparing me for my future, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
