In Intermediate Composition, this semester we focused on not only learning to develop and demonstrate critical reading, writing, and thinking skills through composition; but also, employed a thematic approach to composition and research by focusing on Millennial Culture. We read different books and reflected on them throughout the semester and how they portray or capture different aspects of Millennial Culture, including Millennials Rising, Generation Me, The Catcher in the Rye, and Hillbilly Elegy. We also looked at various articles online and discussed in class the various facets of the Millennial generation and how that will affect us as we age. Towards the end of the year the entire class took a trip to Buckhorn, Kentucky to help a children’s center there that takes in some of the worst victims of child abuse. Overall the class was very stimulating and involved a lot of discussion and reflection that culminated in the service trip we took.
